Happy New Year!

auction.jpgSnapshot_006.jpgLooking for a way to ring in New Years in Second Life? Head on over to the black tie Café Society’s Charity Auction and Gala Ball. The auction to benefit “Make a Wish Foundation” includes lots created by Caliah Lyon, Queue Marlowe, Betty Barracuda, Sparkle Skye and many more generous donors. The party starts at 8 pm SLT on Masterpiece Island (218, 189, 53) and features a live DJ spinning tunes and a firework show to really ring in the new year.

If you’re looking for something new or different to suit that black tie dress code, why not check out the gowns at Scandal by ShyOne Lehane and Kiana Dulce? The dress called “Crimson” shown to the right would be a perfectly colorful way to send off 2007 and start 2008. The silver detailing on the bodice is really outstanding and the prims in the skirt add a really opulent, slightly translucent finish to this design. I’m also showing off the Eolande Elverhjem’s — Ohana Isle (204, 55, 21) — brand new Docsisle Fleur de Lis designs in the necklace, earrings and hairpin. Marvelous!

Snapshot_003.jpgSnapshot_005.jpgThe chic way to show skin this holiday season is the exposed back which is everywhere in fashion glossies. The gown to the right is named Gold Rush and it has a super sexy back scoop and a really dramatic ruched bust in the front. The primwork is not my absolute favorite, but the outstanding bodice more than makes up for it in my opinion. If you’d prefer a more “conventional” formal look, try on the “Winter Wonderland” in crisp snowy white (shown right), which shares some of the same silver accent details with Crimson shown above.

You can find Scandal at Cecil (130, 55, 91).

Janet Jackson covers Prestige, Hong Kong??¦

What a way to bring in the New Year Ms. Janet. At 41 years young, Janet Jackson is giving her younger predecessors a run for their money in her latest magazine spread for luxury lifestyle publication “Prestige“. You can read the full article here. Though her last album ???20 Y.O.??? didn??™t do as well as planned, this year’s box office hit ???Why Did I Get Married??? kept Janet firmly in the limelight (her third consecutive no.1 movie after ???Poetic Justice??? and ???The Nutty Professor II: The Klumps???). Look out for Janet??™s 10th studio album in 2008 tentatively titled ???Discipline???.

Gucci Couture?

The past weeks have been full of all the usual end of year “what were they thinking” stuff, and predictions for the year to come, well here’s one to start 2008 off, and it’s a combo, surprisingly, from Gucci. Usually, if you don’t like a Gucci, it’s more a matter of personal taste, not poor taste…until the Joy Boston Bags that is.

If you stand a few steps back, and squint, it’s easy to mistake the bag for Juicy. not Gucci. The insignia fabric, bright colors, stylized script…it is an emblem-fest of cheesy. It looks like something picked up on 5th Ave, not in the Gucci flagship, but literally ON 5th Avenue. From a table near the street, where the bigger and more frequent the designer name, the better.
Then again, perhaps it is a brilliant bit of marketing genius, to cater to the girls who love their Juicy type logos, but feel they’re growing out of the teen years when an embroidered terry cloth bag is enough, and want something still juvenile, but more “exclusive”.
At $530, it certainly is almost an entry level bag for the company, not much more than a Juicy bag…maybe it is intended to be a gateway drug for future label slaves?
The Joy Small Boston Bag (it comes in medium too!) is $530 from Saks.

What??™s the Most Fashionable Way to Celebrate New Year??™s Eve?

image

Everybody has a different way to bring in the new year. Some (like me) prefer small, intimate cocktail parties with friends, where you can laugh and reminisce over the past year while actually hearing yourself think. Others would rather hear nothing more that a pulsing bass line amid a crush of trendy humanity at a trendy nightclub as they party their way into 2008 (that was me five years ago). Still more go to the opposite extreme, a quiet night at home with their significant other, cuddling in front of a roaring fire with a glass of champagne and a serious cheese plate (me in 2013, no doubt). How about you?
